Nearly everyone who has driven south to the Gulf Coast beaches knows about Greenville - or thinks he does. But to really know Greenville, you need to put down that interstate map and stop in for a visit.

Easy to Find. Located just half an hour south of Montgomery - where I-65, U.S. 31 and Alabama's Highway 10 coverage - Greenville is the county seat of picturesque Butler County. The Montgomery Regional Airport is just minutes away, and CSX rail serves the city. Greenville is proud of its historic downtown business and residential district, and its wide variety of other retail and commercial offerings. The city's industrial manufacturing base is diverse, from wood products and steering wheels to textiles. And it's rapidly growing: Two industrial parks are already full, and another is on its way.

Easy to Enjoy. With a population of just over 8,000, the Camellia City is small enough to retain a warm, old-fashioned friendliness but big enough to enjoy more sophisticated conveniences. State-of-the-art health care is provided at Stabler Memorial Hospital, whose wide range of services includes 24-hour-a-day emergency care. Butler County schools are the envy of other similar sized towns, with rising test scores and a new $15 million high school just completed. Cultural life in the community is thriving. Residents have a wealth of recreational options, including first-rate public golf courses, Sherling lake park, and ample hunting and fishing. Both the YMCA and the city recreation department offer sports and fitness programs.

Founded in 1820, Greenville likes to say it is proud of its past and excited about its future - an attitude that has earned it a reputation as one of the great small cities of the South.
